The Tax Collection Department is located on the first floor
of the Town Hall. The Collection windows are open from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Our summer hours
(From the first monday in July, through Labor Day) are 9:00am to 4:00pm.
Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions
1. When are the tax bills mailed?
Tax bills are deposited in the mail on the first week in May.
2. How do I recieve a 3% discount on my tax bill?
In order to receive the 3% savings on your tax bill, you must pay the entire
year, IN FULL, by the end of the first quarter which ends May 31st. Payments
may be mailed or paid in person at Town Hall.
3. What are prior taxes?
In the past, any past due balance on your tax bill would have been lumped
into your new balance for the next fiscal year. Starting this year we have
seperated it into a past due amount, and a balance for the new year.
4. What are the quarterly due dates?
Quarterly due dates define the end of the fiscal quarter, which means your
quarterly taxes are due by that date (unless you have taken advantage of
the 3% discount). The dates are May 31st, August 31st, November 30th, with
the fourth quarter falling into the next year due on February 28th or 29th.
5. Where should tax payments be sent?

6. What is the interest rate per annum?
Unpaid tax bills will incurr a 14% interest rate.
7. What is the fee for a Municipal Lien Certificate?
The charge for a MLC is $25.00.
8. What year's taxes am I paying right now?
Real Estate taxes cover the taxes incurred during the calander year, except
you are being taxed on the real estate value based on assessments from the
previous year. While your motor vehicle tax will always be one year in arrears.

9. Can water bills be paid at Town Hall?
Water bills may be paid in person at the Cumberland Water Department's
office located at 98 Nate Whipple Highway. Payments in the form of cash,
money orders or personal checks will be accepted during regular business
hours, Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. The Water Department
is unable to accept payment by credit or debit cards. Payments may also be
mailed directly to the office on Nate Whipple Highway or to PO Box 666,
Providence, RI 02901-0666.
10. Can Fire District bills be paid at town hall?
The Town of Cumberland has four independent fire districts, which means
they levy their own taxes and therefore collect their own taxes. Click here
