Our Mission Statement:
The Cumberland senior Center is a caring center committed to
providing an array of quality services to our senior citizens. We
encourage and assist each individual to achieve a lifestyle in which
they can remain an active and productive member of the community. We
are responsive to the needs of our senior citizens and offer up-to-date
quality of life programs and encourage all members to participate.
- Lunches at a reduced price are served daily at
11:30 am. Pre-registration is required. A printout of the monthly
menu is available at the Center. Call the Center and ask for Roger.
- The senior van is available for many uses,
including shopping and mall trips, etc. Advanced reservations are
required and can be made available by calling the Center.
- The Pool Room is open daily for member’s
- Program’s on a variety of educational,
informational and recreational topics for senior citizens are
offered throughout the year.
Chair Yoga – Wednesday 10-11am.
Fingers Circle is a learning and socializing group for people who
crochet and knit. It’s held every Monday from 9-11am at the center
and is free to all members.
Open Card Playing – Every Thursday from 10-1pm a tournament of High,
Low, Jack enjoyed by both men and women is played. Registration is
required and tournaments are scheduled every fifteen weeks.
Free blood pressure screening services are provided every Tuesday
from 1-2pm in the office at the center.
Art lessons are offered on Tuesday afternoons from 1-3pm.
Beginners Line Dancing is offered from 11:45-12:45 on Thursday’s
with Intermediate Line Dancing immediately following from 1-2pm.
Gentle Yoga with a mat is offered on Wednesday’s from 9-10am.
Aerobics is offered on Tuesday’s from 10-11am at the center.
BINGO – This is offered every Friday at the center from 11:45 to
Computer Lessons are offered on Thursday’s from 9:30 to 11:30 at the
center, however sign-up is required.
Aqua Aerobics – This is offered on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from
10-11am at the Cumberland Boy’s & Girl’s Club.
Table Tennis is available at the center on Wednesday’s from 2-3pm.
The Scrabble Club meets at the center on Wednesday’s from 1-3.
Strength Training is offered at the center on Wednesday’s from
Nintendo’s WII can be played on Thursday’s from 9-10:30am
Cribbage players are invited on Thursday’s from 2-3:30pm.
Selected summer activities include miniature golf and special
Guest speakers throughout the year - check our newletter.
Come and visit us at the Center as there are many activities that
take place each month, at various times of the year, some of which are:
Theme Party, Happy Birthday Celebrations Monthly, Ice Cream Socials,
Line dancing, Walk for Health, to name just a few.
Our “Senior Member Picnic” is held every year in June on the
Monastery Grounds. Music and Entertainment are provided together with a
Cumberland “Monastery” Arts and Crafts Festival is held
on a Saturday each June. Call the Center for details.
One of the most popular offerings of the senior center are its “day” and
“long term” trips offered to various locales. Places visited in the
past include Indian Head, New Hampshire, Foxwoods Casino, Mohegan Sun
Casino, Cape Cod, Newport, Atlantic City, Bar Harbor, Maine as well as
spectacular cruises through the Panama Canal, Bermuda and to the
Caribbean. All trips are posted by Pat Bateman on the Bulletin Board so
that you can sign up during any visit to the Center. Of course, space
is limited on all of the trips and seats go on a “first come, first
