Business Licenses

The Cumberland Town Council is the licensing authority for the Town.  All licenses are subject to approval of the Town Council with the exception of liquor licenses are approved by the Board of License Commissioners’.  

Please consult with the town clerk’s office regarding licenses that may be required for your business. 
 
The following is a general overview of requirements for various business licenses.

  • Business Certificate – For businesses that are not incorporated with the Secretary of State’s Office
  • Business Certificate for Non Profit - For non-profit businesses that are not incorporated with the Secretary of State’s Office
  • Class A – Full Service Liquor Store License – (State Application for Liquor License & Holiday License Required – See Application Below)
  • Class BV – Full Liquor Service License with Food (State Application for Liquor License & Victualling House License Required – See Application Below) 
  • Class BVL – Beer & Wine License with Food - (State Application for Liquor License & Victualling House License Required – See Application Below) 
  • Class BNT – Full Liquor License with Food (license cannot be transferred) - (State Application for Liquor License & Victualling House License Required – See Application Below)
  • Class D – Club License with Food - (State Application for Liquor License & Victualling House License Required – See Application Below) 
  • Class F – Beer & Wine License for a Special Event - (religious organizations, state non-business corporations and political organizations only)
  • Class F1 (Full Liquor) – Full Liquor License for a Special Event - (religious organizations, state non-business corporations and political organizations only)
  • Entertainment License – required for liquor establishment or a non-alcohol serving establishment to provide entertainment to its customers; both live and/or recorded music or any form of live performance.
  • Extended Hours License – required to remain open between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. 
  • Fire Arm Sales License - Required for any firearms dealer
  • Holiday Sales License – Required for any business operating on State Holidays.  A Holiday License is required for Class A Liquor Licenses holders to operate on Sundays and State Holidays.
  • Junk Car License Application
  • Kennel License Application - required for every owner or keeper of pedigree dogs for breeding and stud purposes only. Operated exclusively in agriculturally zoned areas with set-backs from all abutting property of not less that one hundred (100’)
  • Permanent Expansion of Premise for Outdoor Serving of Alcohol 
  • Peddler/Hawker License - Required for any person selling goods or foods on any public street from a stationary or non-stationary location    
  • Pawnbroker License
  • Private Detective - Required for anyone hired for the purpose of conducting investigations involving: inquiries into unsolved crimes, clandestine surveillance, the search for missing persons and the search for lost or stolen property. 
  • State Application for Liquor License by Corporation
  • State Application for Liquor License by Individual or Partnership
  • Temporary Expansion of Premise for Outdoor Serving of Alcohol
  • Used Auto Parts License 
  • Victualling House License – Required for a business where food is sold on premises.  Inspection and written approval is required from the Department of Health.
