The Rhode Island Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (RIPDES) Phase II Stormwater regulations require the Town of Cumberland, as an operator of a municipal separate storm sewer system, to implement programs and practices to minimize pollution from Stormwater runoff.
Developing a Plan
The regulations require municipal separate storm sewer systems operators within urbanized or densely populated areas to develop a Stormwater Management Plan.
The Town’s Stormwater Management Plan aims to reduce the adverse impacts on water quality, aquatic habitat, and human health by instituting controls on the unregulated sources of stormwater discharges.
The Town’s Stormwater Management Plan addresses the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) six minimum control measures that are designed to improve water quality by reducing the pollutants that enter urban drainage systems during storm events.
